It was raining heavily outside. I was fasting. I had to break my first. There was no food at home. So, I had to bring food from outside. There was a small first food shop in front of my house. I took my umbrella & went there. I went & brought some food that I liked to eat.
I was waiting for the shopkeeper to pack the food. Suddenly, I heard a feminine voice ordering from the side. I was completely surprised when I looked at the girl. It would be love at first sight for anyone who saw it. I stared at her for a while. Seeing this, she waved her hand in front of my eyes & I regained my composure. Then she asked me, ‘Why are you looking at me like this?’ I couldn’t find an answer & just said sorry. In the meantime, the shopkeeper had brought my food. I took the food from him & left from there. I didn’t go straight to my house after leaving the shop. I was standing in front of the house on the other side of the road, looking at the shop. After a while, I saw the girl leaving the shop & heading towards her destination. I thought to myself that if I was lucky, I might see her again.
The girl was so beautiful that my face started floating at night. The next day, I went to the university. After class, I was chatting with my friends. Suddenly, a few girls were walking by. I looked & saw that one of them was the girl from the previous day. I was happy to see this & surprised again. I was surprised to think that she was studying in our university. And I was happy to think that I had not lost her. When the girls went a little further, I saw that they had entered English department.
From then on, whenever the girl passed in front of me, I would stare. For the first few days, even if she noticed it, she would either be friends with me or else she would not be able to say anything because she had a friend with her.
One day, she was alone & I was alone too. She came to me & asked, ‘Well, aren’t you the same guy from the fast food shop that day? Why do you always look at me like this? Don’t you know it’s not the job of any decent guy to look at a girl like this? Never look at me again from now on.’ Saying this, the girl left me.
After that for a few days, even though the girl passed by I didn’t look at her. I either looked the other way or looked down. But what I did was gather information about the girl. I found out that the girl’s name was Ruby. She was a second year honors student in the English department.
One day, I followed Ruby & found out her home address. From then on, I often followed her outside the university.
Suddenly one day, Ruby noticed it. The next day, she went to me at the university & said, ‘Well, do you realize that you are repeatedly proving yourself to be rude? Earlier, you used to stare but now you have started following me. Look, don’t do these things again. From now on, I will not explain it politely like this. I will humiliate you in front of everyone.’ Saying this, Ruby left.
After this incident, Ruby did not see me for a while. But I was sure that my absence would have some effect on Ruby.
Almost 4 days passed like this. Then one day Ruby was standing in the waiting shed next to the university gate. It was raining heavily. After a while, coincidentally, I went to the waiting shed. I had my umbrella with me. I was surprised to see her standing there like that. I handed her the umbrella & said, ‘The rain had eased a little. You take this umbrella & leave for home. Give the umbrella to the university tomorrow. Ruby left with my umbrella. I stared at her walking for a while. When she moved beyond my line of sight. I thought it was useless for me to stand like this. I left while getting soaked in that rain. After walking some distance, I saw Ruby standing under a tree with the umbrella. She said, ‘You don’t have to go home drenched in the rain anymore. Grab the umbrella & lets go together.’ I grabbed the umbrella & Ruby hugged my arm & said, ‘Where have you been for the last 3-4 days? Do you know what was going on inside me? Never do that again.’ I didn’t answer anything & thought to myself that rain brings all the changes in my life.
